VFX Shot Acquisition

May 28, 2018

Camera Exposure: is how light or dark the shot is, you can filter through how much light gets through the camera.

What factors into the shot? the lens aperture determines the depth of field while the ISO controls the camera sensor to the light. to achieve the correct exposure one must use a colour chart.

You take a picture of it using the camera and you can balance out the colours and light in pre production before you start filming. The black and white allow you to align the exposing contrast to let you achieve better camera quality. Using it you can also evaluate how the camera sees colour in different lighting.

Focal Length: the distance between the centre of the lens or curved mirror and its focus. We used a Black Magic Cinema Camera so the focal length was 41mm. The higher the number the more zoomed in the shot.

Lens Distortion: can cause errors with tracking, must remove before editing. to avoid this you can use a grid to stop the distortion.

Match Lighting: A 360 camera can be used to record a High Dynamic Range Imaging of the lighting condition of a live action shoot so that the lighting can be sent to Maya.
