Procedures

March 05, 2018

The procedures of all games are basically who does what, when, where and how? Its the rules of what the players can do without being the rules. Additionally, digital wise its integrated within the controls. For example Marios procedures would be how to move and what button does what, it says nothing about how to win the game.

Types of Procedures are:

  • Starting Action - how to start the game like press play of roll the dice.

  • progressing action - ongoing steps

  • special action - game stake and conditional.

  • Resolving Action - the step to end the game

Comparing Procedures

  • Snap - get 2 or more players, share cards between you, decide what order to go in, put cards in the middle until you get 2 cards put after each other

  • Tic Tac Toe - get players, draw a grid, decide who is what symbol, take it in turns drawing symbol in boxes

  • Chess - move the pieces towards opposite end of board.

  • Football - get 11 players on each side, kick ball towards goal.

  • LOZ - use the controls to move, run and attack enemies, collect things, explore.
