Reverse Storyboard

September 21, 2018

In this task I was to select a 20 second segment from an action scene in a film and story board each shot. I could not think of a film so I did Voltron instead. The scene i chose was when one of the protagonists "Lance" is training against these small sphere robots that shoot lasers, his weapon at the time is a gun and he transforms it into a sword during the fight. I did quick sketches are I was mainly focusing on the poses.

I drew 12 frames throughout the 20 second clip. I two frames I have chosen to analyse are below.

In this shot i have it written down as a medium shot as its zoomed in but only above his waist and isn't just focused in on the face like a close up. This is so the viewer can concentrate on the sword in Lances hand which is the main focus of the clip. The arrows i have drawn tell you that the camera is supposed to pan in on the character which is where the next frame comes in.

After the previous frame this is where this one comes in, after the pan in on the face you can see his reaction. This is a close up but not an extreme close up as you can still see the background and his face doesn't take up the whole screen. The whole point of these shots in the clip is to show Lance's reaction to his gun transforming for the time which is why this can also be known as a reaction shot. Therefore the zoom in on his shocked face as he stares at the sword.

Overall the storyboard i drew does what it needs to which is show what the character is doing and the poses. I would improve on the drawing quality and add in more details to the character and background (its in a sci-fi setting so there wasn't much background anyway.) Next time i would also clean up the lines and make them neater aswell and maybe add in some shading.
