Simon Stålenhag - Artwork Analysis

In this artwork the artist has used very dark and dull colors, although he has contrasted the sky to the ground where mysterious dark figures walk towards a car, ad a giant robot stands looking over. It also gives the sense that the robot is blocking the light and bringing the fog with it as if its connected by the wires dragging behind the robot. He has used very simple colors which has worked well as to not make the piece overwhelming, it gives off a calm but eerie mood due to the shades of blue. This artwork is definitely from he sci-fi genre if the broken robot covering a good section of the artwork didn't give it away. Stålenhag is very known for his disturbing take on sci-fi mixed into our world, he chooses to have these elements stand out and contrast with the objects and people of our world. The sci-fi themes usually loom in the background like he has done here.

Stålenhag has opted for a realistic art style with heavy details and shading, in comparison to the artist Jason Chan who goes for a realistic anime style but not as much shading and minor details. I believe this style suits the themes the artist comes up with, its supposed to be a what if scenario so you would want it as realistic as possible.

I think the sounds that would describe the environment in this image would be thunder storm due to the setting as it looks like it has already been raining. I would also use the sounds of crickets to describe it as when in complete silence with only the sound of crickets it gives off the feeling of anticipation. This sound would be non-diegetic as you cant see the crickets making the sounds.

Then for the sounds describing the mood and theme of this image I think a static noise would describe it best, the robot gives off broken machine vibes and with all of the wires i'd think a static noise would suit it best. Another sound I think describes the mood is a car engine for obvious reasons. This would be a diegetic sound as you can see the car and would be able to hear it as well.
