Class Exercise - Composition

December 14, 2017

The class exercise was to go out into our college and take pictures that each represent composition. In my opinion there was nothing to take a picture of as a college site doesn't have many interesting things. However, out of all the random photos we took (including me trying to get my phone back) we got some photos that represent each rule of composition.

Rule of thirds: this picture shows the rule of thirds. the objects are not centred directly in the centre of the page and are off to the side.

Rule of odds: this photo shows the rule of odds which is that the number of objects in a scene should be odd to keep the viewer visually interested.

Rule of balance: the photo clearly shows the rule of balance as there is an even number of people on each side, therefore the photo can remain harmonious.

Rule of space: this picture represents rule of space due to me and another student fighting in a construction site, there is plenty of space to be fighting and doing other actions such as trying to grab my phone. This photo originally was taken for fun by a friend who was out taking these composition shots with us but this photo was too good to pass.

Rule of simplification: the stairs show simplification due to it being even on the and the banister has a simple design. there's not much going on in the photo so the viewer is not overwhelmed.
